Lilo SJ (or Lilo Steiner-Jovic) was born June 1st, 1988. From when she was little she has loved to sing. Be it, to her French fries at any restaurant café or along with Disney movies, she’s been singing since she could talk. Being so vocal, her mother and sister nicknamed her their “Little Sparrow”.

When Lilo was 7, her mom was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Two years later, when Lilo was 9 her mom passed away. This was a major basis for a lot of Lilo SJ’s song writing in the future.

When Lilo was 10, she joined the school choir. But no sooner did she join, did she quit. Finding the constant repetition of sections of songs she didn’t like, to be a waste of time. Lilo didn’t look at music again until she was 14, when the weight of her mother’s death started to really sink in. She tried making bands, joining bands, classes, everything she could that was musical. She even started a band with a few friends called “Destructive and Abusive”

When Lilo was 16, her brother bought her her very first guitar. It was a deep blue, steel string acoustic she named “Precious”. Lilo did every high school show she could, throwing herself amidst her small towns music scene. A music store by the name of “Munch Music” was one of her very first solo shows. When Munch Music asked Lilo why she did music, to put in their flyer, she replied “I don’t know. I don’t care where, I don’t care when I just want to play”

Lilo SJ now lives in Vancouver, and has done a few open-mic shows in the greater Vancouver area. She plans to start playing open mic’s again, and will keep us updated on where and when we can expect to see her.

But like Lilo SJ said when she was young, it doesn’t matter where, doesn’t matter when, just play.
