So I am proud to say I will be forcing myself to go to the open mic night this week! Not like I have to do much forcing, I mean my motto is “I don’t care when, I don’t care when, all I want to do is play”. Shoot, if I could I would play on the corner of the street every day for hours on end, but sadly I like going to a job or doing other things. HOWEVER, doing shows are always fun. So folks its on Friday November 13th 8:30pm The Lyceum 3696 West 8th Ave, Open Mic night. 6$ Entry. So the Lyceum is located on Broadway and Alma in Vancouver. Thats the easiest way I can explain it. I will play my original songs, and will damn well enjoy it! I hope to see you all there!
So I’m working on a buddy’s film score at the moment, and with his permission I will put the video and score on my site as soon as it is done. The video is hilarious. It’s called Covert Mops, directed and filmed my Steo Plancke. It’s awesome. I’ve been slaving over this baby of mine, for about a week now. The music is simple, but it’s probably the best thing (film score wise) I have ever done! Not to mention! Next week! FRIDAY! And the Lyceum on Commercial (info is in my shows page) is an open mic night I will be attending! Hopefully I will be playing something new, cause I can feel a song brewing.
I had a fantastic Halloween! I hope the rest of you did as well! There is nothing more fun that a crazy Halloween. Not even a crazy new years. New years your not dressed up in some crazy get up! Sure you drink your face off, but not with fangs or horns! Hahahaha, but folks in a few weeks this film Cover Mops will be finished and will HOPEFULLY be launched on my website!
Its a long time coming and no blog entry, bad Lilo, Bad bad bad Lilo! Well I recently left my job, so finding a new one has been interesting as well as tiring, hard, frustrating oh the list goes on. But enough about that! I’ll be recording my song, Just a Dream hopefully very soon. As soon as the whole shebang is done, a friend of mine who is a film maker is going to help me make a music video! Cool huh!? Now this song that I’ll be recording will not just have Vocals and guitar, but it will have everything else too! Drums, bass, electric lead, some piano maybe some violin shoot who knows! As soon as I get my music part of my site running, that will also be on my site for free download. The music video will always be on youtube.com like the rest of them for free viewing.
Now since Halloween is coming up, tell me what are you all planning to be this Halloween? Everywhere I go to get something for my costume, when I tell them what I am being I get this look from people that says “Okay…she is definitely on something…”. Needless to say, I am being a Succubus for Halloween! A Succubus is a woman who, while having sex with a human man, will suck out his soul/drain his life force while sleeping with him. I had a friend once tell me “Oh but Lilo, you wear that every day!” Har Har Har.

So I have been working on my Demo Cd design for some time now, and its finally finished to be published! Hopefully by the end of this weekend I will be able to get it all done, hand out the demos to potential places for gigs and then gigs will happen! And thank god! Its about time shows can happen! Although I am working on going to as many open mic nights as I can possibly handle! That way more and more people can hear who I am, where I’m from and my sound.

So last week I had a mixing session with my recording engineer, Joel. Thats guy is a recording genious, I just thought I would share. So we have edited the songs, and decided what needs to go where etc. All the levels and all that jazz. Hopefully by tuesday we will be able to mix them down, send them out to be copyrighted etc. Good old Socan, they are good for something! No but seriously, you don’t want your music shiz stolen COPY RIGHT IT FOLKS! Thats the best call. Anyway so after I get the songs copywritten, I will be organizing with my brother (who used to help design websites for a company a buddy of his owned) on how to personalise my website! Make it a real website, photos, blog entry section, show list, free download-ables section etc.
On a side note, today I need to buy myself a road bike! I’m going to stop taking public transit and going to start riding my bike everywhere! 1 it saves but loads of money, 2 its good for the enviorment and we all know what shit it is in, and 3 within the future I would like to buy a car just so I would be able to take my equipment to my gigs, and be able to go visit my brother up in the Okanogen when ever I feel I really miss my brother. Which happens often, we are very close. Not to mention the okanogen rocks! Any hoo, I must be off to those loverly bike shops so I can get myself an awesome bike!
So I recorded all the guitar I needed to for the 3 songs, who knew that pre-production was so important! Ya live ya learn I guess. But seriously, it cut recording down into I swear almost 1/8 the time! It was amazing! It usually would have taken 3 weeks(1 session per week) to get 3 guitar tracks for 3 seperate songs completed! But no, thanks to the astounding Joel Matthies and his patience with me, it only took 5 hours! (3 hours for recording, 1 hour to rent gear, 30 minutes to set up, 30 minute lunch break…hey I gotta eat:P). Not many people can say they have the patience to take on Lilo SJ…I get frustrated…give up, and then I come back to what ever it is I was doing all ashamed and bashful. Its a staple Lilo SJ move. Can’t help it it’s just who I am. SO! I will be recording vocals tomorrow for the demo! I am suuuuper excited, cause my voice has been sounding really nice lately. So hopefully, within the next month it will be finished, my website will be updated and no longer lame, and everyone can download the songs free off of my website! Can’t go wrong with free tunes!
On a side note! I found out, lots of people I know, friends included, check out my website on a regular basis! It was one of those moments where you go “Oh gee…gosh I don’t know what to say” and your all shy and such. Especially coming from this one person I know. She is a fellow artist, her name is Caitlin Toom, and she has this AMAZING jazz voice! Like to die for! Her telling me she has listened to some of my stuff and likes it was a huge compliment to me. So I had to put my recording on hold AGAIN! Due to me getting super sick last week, talk about a piss off. Currently I am watching The OC on my couch…it’s my vice. My terrible, disgusting, strange vice. I know how lame that is…mine you when I was little I loved 90210…and I even had one of those umm Luke Perry barbie dolls. Like you know instead of a Ken doll it was a Luke Perry doll…It even had one of those earings in its ear and a leather jacket. Anyway enough of my disgustig vices, I will be setting up for recording tomorrow. You know working out the kinks with the software, and the hardware. Making sure we have the right mics for the sound we want etc etc. But hopefully, by the time June is over the Demo will be done and I will be doing shows again! Woohoo! And off I go to practice.

So I had a littler breather I guess you could say from everything. It gave me a little time to figure out if I really wanted this. You know its funny though, time and time again I found myself thinking “Well….if music isn’t what I’m here to do then what am I supposed to do? Music is all I know…” And music is all I know, all I love, all I’ve learned. For god sakes I went to Colllege for Music Production! I would have taken any road that involved music, seriously any. I mean I even love doing film scores. Depends on what kind of film though, black and white ones are always good. Perhaps ones about murder mystery, suspense, or even thriller I’m good at those. I can’t wrap my head around scoring for Cartoons, or Romance. Probably cause it just isn’t in my blood. Anyway the point is, I can’t not do music. I’m not exactly sure why that is, but I’d rather go after something I love for the rest of my life and in my own personal opinion I think thats the best philosophy for loving life till its end. Because you never know when life will end, so you have to enjoy every second on it, and why waste it on something you don’t love? or with people you don’t like? I’ll take the high road thanks.
Speaking of music, I would like to give a HUGE congrats to Metric and their new album! It is fantastic! Sure her lyrics are not as…well thought out however, the sound? LOVE IT! Love the songs. Same with The Fray’s new album, love that too. But then again I just love them…that guy has SUCH an amazing voice it makes me wanna cry. I remember when I first heard their song “How to save a life” on Grey’s Anatomy…I think that was the episode where Danny died. Oh man! I cried like a freakin baby! Fantastic songs, love it all.
Anyway folks, I must be off to enjoy the beautiful sunshine on this wonderful Saturday morning here in Vancouver.
